“What is your favorite animal?”
Ah, the deer. So beautiful but so, so dumb. They just walk into traffic and get hit by cars.
But are they dumb? Or are they just simply wild animals unequipped to deal with our human developments? I think we should cut deer some slack.
They’re friendly when they want to be, and a true force of nature when they need to be.
I got the chance to visit the National Key Deer Refuge in the Florida Keys, and learn about the elusive deer that live there. Their population went down to around 24 individuals in the 1950s due to hunting, and efforts have been made to conserve the species and save them from extinction. Now there are estimated to be around 1,000 individuals, according to their site. I love the key deer most out of every species of deer, and my favorite coat variant is piebald.

Deer are a lot like us, they just want to live and be unbothered. I think deer are one of the most beautiful animals in the world and are extremely underrated.
